A Tour through 200 Years of Alabama History
11:50am-1:00pm CT

Join ADAH Director Steve Murray for a special hour-long walking tour of Bicentennial Park and the Capitol complex in downtown Montgomery! The tour will depart from the Archives at 11:50 and meet at Bicentennial Park at 12:00pm.

Bicentennial Park, completed in 2019, commemorates Alabama’s 200th anniversary of statehood. Its bronze relief sculptures present sixteen moments from Alabama's history. Beginning with the land that would become Alabama and tracing its human history to 2019, the park reflects a rich, dynamic past filled with challenge, change, and accomplishment.
Bring a picnic lunch with you, or head to one of many great restaurants in downtown Montgomery for lunch after the tour!

Alabama’s Digital History: A Behind-the-Scenes Tour of the Digital Collections of the ADAH

Thanks to support from the Friends, the ADAH has an incredibly rich and growing collection of digitized materials—from Alabama citizens’ letters and photographs to governors’ papers and WSFA newsreel film. Join the ADAH’s Digital Assets section for a deep dive into the ADAH’s digital collections.
The October 7 Friends event began with a behind-the-scenes tour of the Digital Assets lab, where selections from the ADAH’s collections are scanned, transcribed, and added to the ADAH’s searchable online database of digital collections. Digital Assets Coordinator Meredith McDonough shared some highlights from our digital collections and how to access them online.
